1.1 This specification covers flexible chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) sheeting which is used without mastic bedding or coating for construction of concealed water-containment membranes in applications where there is potential for costly secondary damage from leakage and where very long-term reliable performance is essential. Examples are fountains pools planters shower and safe pans tile tubs and similar installations where the membrane is inaccessible once construction is complete. Included are requirements for composition strength and toughness test methods workmanship criteria and methods of marking.

1.2 Manufacturers have the option to use recycled materials in this product. Recycled materials must be in accordance with the requirements in Section 4.

1.3 The test methods used to characterize the sheeting are intended to ensure quality and performance and are not necessarily adequate for design purposes. Test methods have been selected to be conducted primarily with liquids that simulate the environments to which the membrane will be subjected during actual installation and use.

1.4 This specification does not cover water-containment membranes exposed in use to ultraviolet light or direct sunlight.

1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values in parentheses are given for information only.

Reference this chemical resistance classification for any PVC/CPVC material compound specification wherein a level of resistance to specific chemicals is required for satisfactory product performance.

Listing of a chemical in the annex does not imply PVC/CPVC compatibility or resistance to the chemical. Some of the chemicals listed could be deleterious to a specific compound causing radical changes in the physical properties. Resistance to these chemicals is not intended to be a practical requirement in a specification.

For resistance to mixtures of chemicals it is suggested that the blend be tested rather than accepting the resistance of the individual chemicals because of a possible solvency enhancement of the combined chemicals.

The specimens tested in this classification are unstressed. When service conditions include stress or other factors or both test chemical resistance of the PVC/CPVC compound under actual service conditions.

1.1 This classification covers the method for determining and classifying the resistance of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) homopolymer and copolymer compounds and chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC) compounds in chemicals by simple immersion testing of unstressed specimens.

1.2 This classification is applicable to any PVC or CPVC compound as defined in Specifications D1784 D3915 D4216 D4396 or D4551.
